Caps fall to rising Bulldogs
Kevin Rothbauer - Cowichan Valley Citizen
November 13, 2009
The Cowichan Valley Capitals suffered another setback on Tuesday, losing 8-3 to the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.
With the third-best record in the British Columbia Hockey League's Coastal Conference, the Bulldogs are enjoying a better season than they have experienced in several years, outperforming their Vancouver Island rivals through the first third of the season.
The Caps spotted the Bulldogs a 6-0 lead through the first two periods before coming alive in the third, scoring three straight goals to trim Alberni's lead from six goals to three. Veteran forward Nick Anderson scored the first two goals, both set up by linemate Michael Hammond, and Mikael Jung had the third. The Bulldogs closed things out, however, with two more goals of their own.
Laurent Brossoit started the game in net for Cowichan and took the loss, giving up five goals on 28 shots in 35:46 of work. He was replaced by affiliate player Max Pelzner for the last 24:14. Pelzner made 10 saves on 13 shots.
Former Cap Mitch MacMillan had two of Alberni's goals.
The Caps will be at home to Burnaby this Saturday, facing off at 7:30 p.m., then on the road against Nanaimo on Sunday.
